florida coast

Current work exploring extreme weather and coastal edge complexity. The focus of this project is designing coastal edge conditions that attenuate storm surge and build habitat. Of particular interest are the complex behaviors of weather and water – as historical inspirations for the development of complex computation and chaos theory, but also as critical forces hitting the coast with increasing extremity.

To understand and participate in this complex system requires multiparameter design thinking focused less on high-resolution exactitude and more on broad behavioral pattern development over time, founded on broader understandings of emergence and morphogenesis. I am currently creating a computational tool for understanding changing edge geometry, sand movement, and wave action to guide design exploration.
